Artist Statement

As an artist, I am dedicated to matters of the mind and body, and how society influences them. I believe that art is a way to express things that cannot otherwise be expressed, and that means digging deep into those untapped wells of feelings. Oftentimes, these feelings coincide with the taboo or distressing, and I welcome these elements in my art practice.

Although my professional art career is still in its infancy, so far my work has been primarily autobiographical in inspiration, with themes such as experiences with depression, ableism, and body image.

As an educator, my ideology is not so different. My priority is providing tools to students through which they can express themselves, especially as they go through the tumultuous changes of growing up. Even if all you are teaching is technical skills, that is opening up many doors through which emotional clarity and expression can occur.
